Understanding Children’s Candidiasis: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments

Yeast infections, or candidiasis, are common yet easily treatable conditions that can affect children and adults alike. These infections are frequently caused by the fungus Candida and can lead to symptoms such as inflammation, intense itching, and a distinctive white discharge. Factors like warm, humid environments, prolonged diaper wear, and compromised immune systems can increase the risk of yeast overgrowth. Notably, antibiotics, by eliminating beneficial bacteria that normally balance yeast levels, can also contribute to candidiasis. To prevent these infections, maintaining dry skin, changing diapers frequently, and prudent antibiotic use are recommended. When an infection does occur, treatments include antifungal creams, suppositories, or mouthwashes.
